Thanks for visiting the Kern River Preserve and a special thank you to all of our new members.

With hummingbirds whizzing around their heads, 219 people from around the world visited the Kern River Preserve on Saturday August 11th. The delighted throng learned how to photograph, feed, identify and garden for hummingbirds. A few even got to release newly banded hummingbirds after researchers from UC Berkeley finished gathering data about the Kern River Preserve's hummingbirds.

Thanks to Bob Steele for leading the ever popular hummingbird photography workshop. Thanks to Birdie Foster for teaching about how to feed hummingbirds in her two workshops. Thanks to Alison Sheehey for leading the hummingbird identification workshops. Thanks to Marya Miller for teaching about native plant gardening. Thanks to Reed Tollefson for leading the nature walks. Thanks to Denis Dunning, Chris Hancock, Jeff King and Sandra Wieser for running the information booth and all of their help in keeping things running smoothly. Thanks to Chris Clark, PhD candidate and his two assistants, Teresa Feo and Anand Varma for coming down from UC Berkeley to conduct the hummingbird banding workshop. Thanks to Darrell Barnes, Bill Foster, and Gordon Hancock for educating people about the Kern River Preserve's Southern Pacific Pond Turtle headstart project. Thanks to Pat Seamount, Michael Gallagher, Rob Robinson, Bob Bergeron, Terry Harris and others for delighting the crowds with their beautiful music. Thanks to Steve Kenton for his devotion to the Kern Valley and for setting up his USPS cancellation booths each festival. Thanks to Casey and Laurie Robinson for educating people about solar power. Thanks to Bob Robinson for educating people about the Kern River Watershed. Thanks to our vendors for bringing great stuff for people to buy.

And a special thanks to all of you who came from far and near to learn about our precious jewels of the sky.
