Audubon Kern Valley Restoration Projects Slough Channel |

In 1991 the Oasis Garden Club, TNC staff and volunteers planted the field in front of the headquarters along the slough channel. While this area had some natural regeneration, the forest needed help in filling in the gaps. This area is one of the most productive areas on the preserve for Willow Flycatcher. Our headquarters entrance road bisects the project area. It undergoes flooding during spring runoff every year as the Prince Ditch agricultural canal runs through the center. The maintenance done on the canal is by the downstream rancher who owns a legal easement to maintain his water right. |

About Audubon Kern River Preserve The Kern River Preserve is managed by Audubon California for the preservation of one of California’s largest contiguous cottonwood-willow riparian forests and the wildlife it supports. Audubon Kern River Preserve supporters provide financial and volunteer support for Preserve outreach, education, wildlife habitat protection & stewardship. |
