A Big Flood Requires a Lot of Work

Volunteers sought to help repair flood damages on Audubon Kern River Preserve

Weldon, CA – Join staff and friends on Saturday, February 19 from 8 a.m. to noon for a weekend volunteer day. So much water and a good thing at that for most of the preserve this was a very great day... unfortunately, where people like to be are the parts that suffered damage. This month's project then will be to renovate our nature trails and fences and to work on some of our restoration sites that were damaged in December's flood.

Once a month from Fall through Spring, volunteers from around the community gather to help on a project at the Audubon Kern River Preserve.

Bring gloves, wear long sleeves and pants, sturdy shoes/boots and safety glasses if you have them. The preserve will supply the tools. Meet at 7:55 a.m. at the headquarters of the Kern River Preserve: 18747 Highway 178, Weldon, CA. Contact the Kern River Preserve land steward, Sean Rowe email: srowe@audubon.org or call 760-417-1149 to RSVP.

The next scheduled volunteer projects will be more fun and necessary outdoor events - March 5 and 19, 2011.
