Fencing is a necessary part of modern American life especially in ranching areas where property boundaries are protected from roaming grazing animals. Most fence is made of barbed wire which can injure wildlife that crawls under the wire and more seriously entangle animals that jump over it.

After witnessing scenes like this on land in the Kern River Valley, Audubon was compelled to make range fencing safer for wildlife.

Audubon is eliminating and replacing poor fencing

Audubon staff and volunteers have removed or modified 10 miles of range fence to make it more wildlife friendly.
